This sounds like the Jetta to get if you ask me.
That 1.8T is probably able to make GLI levels of power without much more then a tune.
I'm sure the suspension isn't as "sport" focused as a GLI, and it has a 5-speed manual compared to the GLI's 6. But for only $21,000, it sounds like a good deal.
But, death to V-Tex. Give me cloth dammit! Why are Ze Germans afraid to sell cars with cloth seats in America?

They do sell cloth.

$21k?
have you heard about our lord and savior Fiesta ST?

I find it weird that VW reduced the size of the main bearings (compared to the 2.0T?) for the sake of fuel economy. I believe it also has an integral cylinder head cast water cooled exhaust manifold too.
Edit: At least its got independent rear suspension now!
Oh well, there are some tunes out for it already I see.

I think the GTI is the only model that has cloth as an option. And that's only on the most basic GTI.

Which is smaller, and less attractive, and manual only.
Plus $21k gets you an absolutely bare bones Fiesta.

I know I have. Probably getting one in a few months.
That, or a down payment on a house.
Or a nice fat rock wrapped in gold.
I need a raise.

That's not a 3door Golf. pass.

Just get the prior "generation," same platform but with IRS.

The Beetle R-Line has cloth on all but the highest trim level.

Sounds nice, what I do HATE is how Volkswagen of Mexico adorned the new Jettas interior.
That white strip looks AWFUL, and the steering wheel is just an insult.
Also, I don't know why Volkswagen doesn't use the 1.4 TSI on my Golf. Seriously, it feels more powerful than the old 2.5 and gets about 40% better economy.

That seems to be good value for money. Would love to drive one.

smaller = lighter faster more efficient
less attractive = wrong
manual only = FUCKING GOOD
Bare bones = the only option I'd recommend is the Recaros, but they add weight. Bare bones is good

I say house first so you have a place to work on your car.

And it's the best looking seat on sale today. Because plaid is awesome.

I agree. I think my mom will get one next summer, when she trades in her 2011.5 SE

You can sleep in your car, but you can't drive your house to work.

I honestly think you'd be hard pressed to find a car uglier than the FiST.
It's a blob with random sharp creases and an overdone catfish front end. Bleh.
VW GIVE US THE SIROCCO OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT

If the car I'm driving makes it through the winter and spring, It'll be rock, house, car, in that order.
If not, it'll be car, rock, house.
(unless I jinxed myself by posting that ;_; )
